The Low Income Tax Credit Can Benefit Many People

By Jeremy Winters

An idea which was cleared by the House in 1986 plainly offered several provisions to supply credits to those contractors who were prepared to offer reasonably priced houses for low income individuals. There are certain factors for identifying the group of low income families, and family homes were supposed to be developed for them by these housing groups.

Unlike the traditional incentives in income taxes for such purposes, which were often unsuccessful in attracting major home contractors to build homes for low income people, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Act helped to produce thousands of economical homes for lower income families.

This specific act was designed to offer dollar to dollar rebates to the developers. The tax rebate on the other hand just supplied rebates on their taxable earnings, which was not enough for these large projects. After a gap of 25 years, this act is proving to be very effective in a few states even while implementation in other states has also proven to be very good for some low income people.

At present some groups in Iowa are working to get through another such bill referred to as the Low Income Tax Credit, which will make it possible for lower income people to enjoy tax rebates as well as some extra income that will be supplemented for an incentive. In this way, such groups report that it will assist to improve the financial conditions of low income individuals and would also fill up some of the gap between them and high income people.

According to this Low Income Tax Credit bill, the tax credit thus earned would be available to low income people and provide a supplement to their income. More about this is yet to be finalized. Democrats are additionally supporting such groups to create a far more comprehensive plan for this bill and people are confident of getting it enacted in upcoming sessions. The low income tax credit will not necessarily develop jobs for the men and women, but will undoubtedly help to improve the lives of those people with lower incomes. This particular act will provide businesses flexibility to choose workers for low profile jobs. If this act is passed only in Iowa, it will benefit more than 230,000 people earning under $46,000 a year.

Regardless of how many such bills are created in the House and are passed, the key question is how will the government fill the gap between low income and high income people. Different companies have formulated their own rules to handle this issue. Though the government is also doing its bit to do so, the gap appears to be endless and more such acts to assist the financially distressed only seem to do a fraction of the job necessary.
